Sedation Dentistry Explained
Sedation Options Explained: Nitrous, Oral, and IV
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous is the lightest option, breathed in through a small mask for a relaxed, slightly floaty feeling. It wears off within minutes, so most patients can drive themselves home afterward.
Oral sedation
Oral sedation is a prescribed pill taken before your visit that leaves you drowsy and calm while still awake. Because the effect lasts longer, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
IV sedation
IV sedation provides the deepest relaxation, delivered through a vein and closely monitored. Dr. Greg performs IV sedation and is among a small number of dentists certified to provide it, and the practice’s anesthesia provider handles the deepest cases.
Which option is right for me?
The right level depends on your anxiety and the treatment you need. We match it to you at your visit, and you stay in control of the choice. The goal is simple: comfortable care, every time.
